Black and White and 23 Weeks

I'd heard that turtlenecks were getting popular again this year and . . . I think I had too many flashbacks to my turtleneck days in elementary school.

But then, Landen bought me this one from Target for my birthday and I love this dang thing.

It's super stretchy and soft (this isn't a maternity one, but it easily accommodates my 23 week bump) and I feel like the elbow sleeves keep it feeling lighter and fresher than a full-sleeve turtleneck.

I'll probably be wearing it all fall and winter long. Or until I'm just too pregnant to make it work.

Amusingly, when I went to look it up on Target's site, I noticed that the reviews were only 3 stars. Considering how much I loved mine, I was pretty surprised by this, so I clicked through to read the reviews and realized there was only one review

The review said, "I ordered both color options online and wear them quite often. Great top!!"

So who knows what it takes to get that reviewer to give a five-star review? Maybe a turtleneck that also does your dishes? Scrubs your toilets?

This turtleneck sadly doesn't do household chores, but other than that, I'd definitely give it five stars.

  1. Looks great on you! Stylish and comfortable. I've been avoiding turtlenecks, because like you, the flashbacks to earlier years just won't stop. At one point in junior high I had enough ribbed turtlenecks from the Gap to wear one in a different color each day for a week...which I did, and I've never been able to forget or live it down!

  2. I hate turtlenecks only because I can't stand the feel of anything around my neck. My husband says I must have been hanged in a former life or something, because even scarves make me feel like I'm choking. Unfortunately, my cold environment (including indoors at our old house--ice on the interior bedroom walls and everything) requires heavy wool sweaters. Since I ALSO can't stand the feel of wool on my skin, I have to have something to keep the wool off my neck. And that's why I pre-stretch the necks of my turtlenecks (even the second-hand ones, which tend to be stretched out already), so don't spend all my time pulling at my neck, feeling as if I'm being strangled.

Obviously, fashion rarely enters into it for me, but I'm glad to hear they're stylish again. I doubt they're styled with bulky, oversized wool sweaters, however. If they were, I'd be totally chic.

  3. Can I ask what size you're wearing? It looks super tight on the Target model but longer and much more flattering on you.

  6. I've been amazed by how many t-shirts I've gotten from Target that I love so much more than other expensive brands I've bought. I feel like their longer sleeved ones are my absolute favorite.

  7. I was a turtleneck wearing freak when I was younger (under every sweater and sweatshirt I could get my hands on!), but didn't wear them for a long time, for a lot of the same reasons. About 2-3 years ago I found one at Target that was a bright pink, didn't have a super tight neck, and had half sleeves (very similar to yours). I wore that thing all the time with skirts and boots! It totally restored my faith in turtlenecks!

  8. Hey Janssen, I was looking at book trailers online and I saw a pic of your oldest in one of them from a library in Indiana. Thought that was neat and maybe you would get a kick out of seeing it. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pauqn8SQ63w

  9. After I read your blog (at 6:30 this morning) I went online & ordered both the black & white and the navy & cream. I was able to pick them up in the store this afternoon and I love them! Something about the short sleeves makes them much cuter!
