You guys are seriously the best. I spent ages looking through all the books you recommended last week and wanting to read them all.
If you’re looking for a bunch of great suggestions, there’s nearly 100 on this post (and I’ll definitely be reading more than just these three).
I finally decided on these three for the summer:
The Light Between Oceans // A Snicker of Magic // The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less
I’ll write about each book at the end of the appropriate month here. I’d be THRILLED if you read along!

Interesting choices, I'm definitely going to check them out. Have fun reading them!

That last one reminds me of Beverly Cleary's book Jean and Johnny (which is DARLING and you must read if you haven't). Jean's mom is always entering contests like that ("Don't forget I won the television set by liking peanut oil in twenty-five words or less.") I'd love to check out The Prize Winner!

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio is an excellent read! Never saw the movie, though.

These sound great! I just need to finish the 4 books I am trying to read right now and then I will read along.

Wow, I feel so honored that my suggestion made it into the top 3! Proud moment! I think you'll love The Prize Winner. Also, A Snicker of Magic is definitely on my list this summer (in fact, I have it on hold at the library right now . . . we'll see if I get to it before I have to take it back). It's been getting a lot of early-Newbery attention and looks darling.

My book club read "Prizewinner" last summer, I think most of us really identified with some aspect of that book, whether it was in our own growing-up, or that of our parents.
(As a side note: I watched the move a few months after reading the book and really liked how it was done, the jingles she writes made so much more sense "animated" (i.e. sound and picture or both) than they did as little stanzas.

I love the sound of 'A Snicker of Magic', but that is just the worst book cover I have ever seen. I shall suspend judgement.

You'll love the Prize Winner — I actually saw the movie before I knew it was a book and both were grand!

I'm excited that you switched to The Light Between Oceans. I just finished and really loved it, I'm excited to hear what you think.
