Raiding My Sister's Closet: Dressing for the 4th of July without Looking Like a Flag
I find holiday dressing a little bit stressful. I don't want to be so festive that I'm like a walking American flag or a Christmas wreath, but I also don't want to look like I didn't have a clue there was a major holiday going on.
This year, though, I manged to pull together two outfits that I feel quite happy with.
For the first one, I went with a striped shirt because, well, I love stripes. This shirt is black stripes, rather than blue, which I think keeps it from being TOO "Hello, I'm celebrating America's independence over here."
And I went red in a big way with the pants (these are my new favorite pants - they feel really high quality, considering I bought them at Forever 21, and I'm in love the color, the fit and the ziiiiiippers).
And then, because what better chance to whip out the blue and white striped skirt than the week of Fourth of July, here's another outfit:
The salmon-colored top keeps it from being over-the-top, I think, but the red shoes are nice move back toward the festive side. (You guys - I have no idea what I'm talking about here. I'm just wearing Fourth of July-ish clothes and making up garbage about how it goes together. Please don't ask me to write thoughtful sentences about clothing. I can barely dress myself on a daily basis).
Actually, I'm just realizing that these two outfits combine mostly my favorite items of clothing in my entire closet. I guess I'll be dressing like an almost-flag most of the rest of the summer.
Check out Merrick and Landen's festive outfits (and probably much more coherent thoughts about clothing in general):
