May Favorites

  • This alphabet card set we gave Ella for Easter. In the last week or two, we've pulled it out almost every day and it's just so ridiculously beautiful. And the cards are sturdy and HUGE.
  • A graduation party for the daughter of some dear friends - such a lovely evening in their beautiful backyard, many fun friends, perfect weather, and a dozen kinds of Blue Bell ice cream. Made me feel nostalgic about the summer nights of my childhood.
  • Rice with any kind of sauce. I discovered recently that Ella will eat pretty much anything over rice and frankly, those are some of my favorite dishes too, so we've been eating Indian and Thai dishes like they're going out of style around here (I particularly love this Thai one because I can throw in whatever vegetables I have and it's super easy).
  • Finally buying a new pair of running shoes. I've hated my last pair pretty much since the moment I bought them, and I think this pair will be much better.
  • Speaking of running, I've finally worked my way up to running 2.5 straight miles three times a week. I know that's nothing to many many people, but that is huge for me. And for the first time in my life, I'm not hating to run.
  • Meeting up with my best friend from high school, her husband, her brother and his wife for dinner at Torchy's Tacos in downtown Austin. So fun to see them all again and catch up.
  • Finally getting the oil changed on my car. Why is this one of my least favorite tasks ever? I just drive up, leave the car for 20 minutes, pay and leave? And yet I procrastinate it for agggggges.
  • A little Memorial Day outing to a nearby cemetery. We took along these lemon sticky rolls and there was a tiny playground behind the cemetery mostly shaded by enormous oak trees, so we spent well over an hour there.
  • Ella's hilarious little personality. She laughs and makes little jokes and sings us songs, and we're just constantly dying over how fun she is right now.
Monkey Face

  1. Your kiddo is the cutest! Also, thanks for the recommendation no the alphabet cards. They look awesome for a niece/nephew birthday gift.

  2. How did you get yourself to 2,5 miles? I've been trying for ages but I can't seem to get anywhere. Did you do a program or run with a friend?

  3. Love Ella's little monkey face!

And how fun that you met up with Amy and Andrew!

  4. I think I've said this before, but I love these lists! Such a great recap of your month. And congrats on the running! My husband and I started the couch to 5k program this spring and as a lifelong non-runner, I am super impressed with myself so far (and I'm only on week 3 - laughable to most people, but amazing for me!).

  5. I enjoyed the alphabet cards. I love collective nouns. My favorite is "An ostentation of peacocks", but I think they just made up "a worm of robins".

  6. I kinda like getting my oil changed. I go inside and read magazines :)

Rice is probably my favorite food. I can't really keep it in the house. In college I would buy two or three containers of it from the Chinese take out place and eat it back at AOPi with butter on top. So healthy!

  7. I know I say this repeatedly, but little Ella is SO darling. Could she be any cuter?! Seriously.

Also--Torchy's Tacos! I went to the one in Houston last week and loved it. Good stuff, right there.

  8. Ah...Torchy's Tacos! I had a fried avocado taco there and it was delicious and almost a reason to move to Texas!!

  9. I'm intrigued by this curry recipe. Do you have a favorite curry paste? I have tried several stinkers and am about ready to give up.

  10. Ella is such a fun age. I am so impressed with how much she is talking. She has the funnest personality!

  11. I just love you and your blog. I'm going to buy everything you bring up and make every recipe you include.

  12. I bought new running shoes this month too, and my feet are in love! We are also all about rice. Jillian LOVES it. When she's hungry she'll grab the container out of the fridge and bring me a spoon so I can help her eat some rice.

  13. Those flashcards are all the rage at my retail gig. Can't keep them on the shelf!

  14. Thank you for the great post. Well done.
