What I'm Going to Read: Round 1

The big winner (who won nothing) was Crafty Ashley with her suggestion of The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee. However, I'd already read it, so I emailed her back for her second choice and she responded with Life with Picasso. I've already requested it from the UT library and I'll start it next week. I won't pretend I'm not a little nervous about it, but I'm also excited to read something that's somewhat out of my comfort zone (oh, who am I kidding - quite a bit outside of my comfort zone).

The other recommendations:

Of those, I've read:

  1. You haven't read Grapes of Wrath? I'm a little shocked and a lot jealous.

  2. Erm, should I have re-submitted Never Let Me Go?

  3. So are you going to read the rest of the suggestions for the next month and the next month until you've gone through them all or are you taking new ones each month?

    Fun game, perfect for you!

  6. I'd have to 2nd whoever recommended "These Is My Words." I just finished it and it's FABULOUS!!! Since you loved "Hattie Big Sky" so much, I know you'll love this book, too.

  7. What girl? You've never read Poisonwood Bible? I was positive you had, so I didn't even submit it. It's my favorite! Just finished it again yesterday. :)

  8. I second Becca--you've got to read Poisonwood Bible. It's in my "I hope I can read this again one day" stack.

  9. I'm reading "The Angel's Game" and love it. Of course, "Shadow of the Wind" is excellent. I think you'd enjoy both books. I personally just loved "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", but I believe it's a bit R rated for you. It has some fairly graphic, yet important to the plot stuff in it. One sequence in it with this waifish girl attacking this creep of a man is one of those ultra graphic sexual scenes that is just outstanding. LOL. I know that may seem like a stupid statement to you, but I'm telling ya, I loved it because the guy deserved everything she dished out.

Anyway, my two bits on your lists

  10. The only book on that list that I've read was The Poisonwood Bible, and I wasn't crazy about it, but I've heard others rave about it so don't pay any attention to me on that one.

Good luck with your book - I hope you really enjoy it.

  12. No offense to Angie of course, but I'm gonna have to agree and say don't pay any attention to her. :)
I'll probably keep re-submitting The Poisonwood Bible until you read it. It's fantastic.

  13. I love that you took the time to link to us all. Is there anything sweeter a person can do for another? I think not.

  14. Hi! I know I missed the official suggestion boat, but I do have a recommendation if you're looking for a quick, but very important read. It's called STORY OF A GIRL and is by Sara Zarr. Happy Reading!
