This past Sunday was the children's program at our church and since I direct the children's music, I was going to be standing in front of the audience for about 30 minutes (also, do not be even marginally impressed by this whole talk of me directing the music - my musical abilities are minimal, to say the least).
On the way to church, I suddenly had a terribly paranoid feeling that I'd put on two different shoes. Wouldn't that just be charming? I looked down and noted with relief that I had two matching black pumps on. Crisis averted.
A few minutes before it all began, I went to the bathroom. The bathroom has a very large full-length mirror near the door, so I was fixing my hair in it when I realized that I was wearing two different earrings. One was a small chain of silver and gray squares. The other was a big brown glass drop with gold hardware. They were about as unalike as any two earrings in my jewelry box (jewelry box = old Altoid tin) could be.
I took them out and shoved them in my purse, very glad it was my earrings that didn't match, rather than my shoes, as it would have been far worse to have to get up in front of 200 people with mismatched or no shoes on, rather than with no earrings on.
