You should do one about your city too. Because, well, I care more than is healthy.
My Austin
Age: 22.Occupation: Library Science Grad Student.
I’ve lived here for: Two years (oh my holy heck, two whole years).
I live here because: We wanted to move somewhere new, my husband got a job here, and I was interested in the library program at the University of Texas. Everything just kind of fell into place. My neighborhood: Just north of Austin.
My favorite restaurant: Kenichi.
If you go to this restaurant, be sure to order: any sushi roll and the hot fudge and banana brownie sundae.
My favorite museum: Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum. My favorite tourist destination: Sixth Street to listen to bands. Best insider spot: free summer outdoor musicals in Zilker Park.My favorite area: The children and young adult section of Book People.
Best place to go shopping: Round Rock Outlet Mall, South Congress Boutiques, or the Arboretum.
When you visit, don’t forget to pack: Jeans – nowhere in Austin is too dressy for jeans.
But leave room in your suitcase for: Longhorn gear. You can’t leave without at least a car magnet (I will not leave this city without a car magnet!)
The one local cuisine you should try when you’re in town is: Tex-Mex. Ignore the people who tell you it’s no good. Or barbecue, of course.
The best way to get around: The ‘Dillo. Free buses that look like old fashioned trolleys and run all over downtown. If I had to describe this city in one word, it would be: Eclectic. There is a little of everything – music, food, people, shopping. I tell my friends to stay at: at my house. Duh. The one thing most outsiders don’t know about this city is: Austin has an annual Book Festival in the fall with dozens of major authors coming in to speak and read. Laura Bush started it back when W. was governor. They say “Virginia is for lovers.” So fill in the blank: Austin is for people who love life.
My own addition: What do you want to do that you haven’t done in your city yet? Go eat at Flip Happy Crepes.

This is so cool! If I hadn’t just written a ranty post about DC, I’d totally do this myself.

I’ve been dying to visit Austin for so long, and this is just making it worse! There’s already a “My DC” but I’m totally going to do another one!

When I was a kid, my mom and I used to go to Zilker park every week and swim in the river. (Did I ever mention I lived in Austin?)
We still go back and do it when we’re on vacation. Awesome!

I’m trying to fill out one of these for Mesa, but here’s the thing. I haven’t been to any museums. I don’t really eat at fun little non-chain restaurants. I don’t think I know any insider spots. We don’t really have any shopping.
I don’t think Mesa is actually worth visiting!
