Valentine's Day

Google Reader is an excellent indicator of what time of year it is, what holiday is approaching, and even the day of the week.

Saturday and Sunday? Easy. . .the number of unread items in my reader drops to about half of the other days; nobody is posting.

Posts about the weather abound. Snow posts? Winter. "So-hot-want-to-die" posts? Summer. Pictures of leaves, apple cider, and pumpkin desserts? Fall.

Today, my Reader is overflowing with Valentine's Day plans, past tales, announcements, and current loves (and yes, a few "I-hate-Valentine's-Day-and-no-one-should-have-a-significant-other-because-I-don't" posts).

Valentine's Day is a low-key holiday in my book. When I was single, I didn't mind and now that I'm not, it's just a good excuse not to have to make dinner and make Bart take me out to eat. Hooray.

This is the fourth Valentine's Day that Bart and I have celebrated together.

Every year we've eaten at a slightly nicer restaurant.

Year one: Fazoli's (we were in a hurry not to miss our movie).
Year two: Cafe Rio
Year three: little hole in the wall Thai place (mmmm)
Today? Nicer Thai place.

The thing about going out for Thai on Valentine's Day? No one else is there. Last year and this year we didn't wait at all. Our food came right out and we were home in time to watch a movie and have some dessert.

And Bart got me a gorgeous bouquet of pink and white tulips.

Happy Valentine's Day, indeed.

  2. That's so sweet. Phil bought me tulips this year as well--only he decided on a potted plant (to last longer) and was especially excited to dig out the bulbs to plant at our next place. What did you have for dessert?

We have a pizza tradition, and we've never had to wait either. It's lovely.

  4. Yeah, we went for Ethiopian, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Good times.

  5. I heart Cafe Rio. Mmmmmm!

We had heart-shaped pizza last night and foot-shaped donuts. Why foot-shaped? I dunno.

  6. Sort of off topic, but have you ever been to Kat'z restaraunt? That was always one of my favorites while I lived there. I would always order the cheese cake milkshake no matter how much food I had already eaten.
