How Much?

Yesterday, I poked my head into my boss' office to tell him something and he said "I don't know if you noticed on your last paycheck, but I gave you a raise."

This is a good way to start the day.

The bad news is that my boss is right about me; I never look at my paycheck stub. And now, I cannot, for the life of me, find my last pay stub and so I don't know how big of a raise it is.

I thought it was on my dresser with my tax information and previous pay stub. It wasn't. I couldn't find it anywhere. I figured it must be in my desk drawer at the office.

I even spent some time last night looking at my bank account and trying to figure out how much I'm paying in taxes and therefore what the pre-tax amount would be. Alas, I want an exact number, not a rough estimate.

I came into the office this morning and it wasn't here either. So I'll have to look at home again (the one place I didn't look, come to think of it, is my filing cabinet. It is (however unlikely) possible that I put it away where it belongs! [Update: Nope. I checked. Not there]).

If I have to wait until the next payday to find out how much more I'm making, I will be sad.

So, hooray for my unknown raise. And from now on, I'm looking at my pay stub instead of stuffing it who knows where.

  1. My paychecks always came in envelopes, which I passed directly to Aaron to deposit. I have no clue how much I made.

Good for you! That's a nice surprise on pay day (and pay day is usually nice enough!)

  4. Hope you don't mind...I'm adding your link to my blog. I think it's hilarious that you can't figure out how much your raise is for. Awesome for you though!

  5. How about just asking your boss? Also, that's awesome! You just tell them you're not going to work full-time anymore and that you need flexible hours, and then they give you a raise? Yee-haw! Maybe you should demand more and longer breaks and see if you can get a promotion!
