Books, Books, Books

When I started this blog a little over a year ago, I planned to only write about the books I was reading. My goal was to read and write about one book a week for a grand total of 52 books and 52 posts by the end of 2007.

I ended up reading 76 books last year, but only posting about 36 of them. Also, I started writing about things that weren't books, and then suddenly I was writing more about my thrilling and fascinating shoe collection than I was about books. Whoops.

This year, my goal is to read 100 books and to write about at least half of them. From what I can tell, my book posts are my least popular posts (although, hoo boy, do I get a lot of Google searches for "Such and such book summary," especially for the award-winning young adult books on Sunday nights. Book reports due tomorrow, anyone?), but I like writing them because it helps me remember the books better and I like having a record of what I've read. When I went back late last year and linked all my reviews on my list of books I'd read, I was amazed by how much I'd forgotten about the books I'd read. I was glad to know that I had a fairly meticulous record of at least half of the books I read last year.

So, if you skip the book posts, I won't be offended. And I love that you guys care about my shoes.

P.S. Also, I've joined Goodreads.com (thanks to Jennifer) and I've added the little "currently reading" widget to my blog so you can see what I'm in the process of reading (and then you can shake your head when I never write about it and think "she'll never get to 50 reviews this year"). I've really liked Goodreads so far, and if you join or already belong, I'd definitely like to be your friend (please be my friend!) Plus, then you can see my list of books as it grows, rather than waiting for Dec 31st (you are waiting, right?)

  1. Just because I don't COMMENT on your book posts doesn't mean I don't like them. They are shaping the future of my reading. My "to read" list has grown considerably since I started reading your blog!

  2. Hey Janssen,
I admit that generally I am a book post skipper. I don't take enough time to read books, as I waste all my free time reading blogs now! And I also like to read mostly nonfiction when I do read. However, I love reading about your shoes. :D
PS. I am highly impressed with the amount of reading that you do though. You'll be a great librarian.

  3. Ya know, I joined Goodreads forever ago because a friend of mine joined and I was like, "hey! good idea!" and then I never looked at it again. Maybe I should give it another chance.

  6. Very nice new blog look!

I was looking at Goodreads the other day and thinking that it might work well for keeping track of my reading (as opposed to keeping track of my library which I do in LibraryThing).

  7. 100 books in a year? Wow, I'm still amazed by that. I would love to read that much, but unless I get to count Dr. Seuss, Sandra Boynton, and Mercer Mayer among those books than I don't think I could reach that goal. Good luck!

  8. I may not comment on your book posts (or any of your posts for that matter) but I definitely like them. I'm always looking for new books to read, and I love your reviews.

  9. Hey I actually used your summaries to help me pick a book club book to host! You'll have to let me know what you think of Memory Keeper's Daughter... I read it just last month.
