Sheyenne wrote a post today (or maybe last night – I read it today) about how she’s mean. But really? I thought it was a post about things she doesn’t like. One of the things were those parties where you are expected to buy many things. I also loathe those parties. So much that I wrote about it earlier this year.
But other things I hate?
Well, I loathe Wells Fargo with a passion. Is that weird? To hate a bank? I grew up with Bank of America, so I thought it might just be that I hated WF for not being BofA.
But then, I went to BYU which is inconveniently located in Utah, otherwise known as the state with no Banks of America. When you have a job that does not offer direct deposit? It’s hard to bank out of state. So I signed up at Wells Fargo because it was conveniently located both on campus and across the street from my apartment.
And I realized? My loathing was well founded. Wells Fargo is the worst bank in the world. (I have now banked with four different banks and the other three have been a hundred gazillion million billion times better).
A few things that I loathe about Wells Fargo?
-
- They will charge you if your mail is returned to them. And since they send six billion junk mail things, it’s hard not to get zinged for this, especially if you are moving often.
-
- They charge you for a savings account. Ridiculous.
-
- Online Bill Pay (the technological wonder I cannot live without and the reason that we never pay any late fees) is not free.
- Ugly cards (yes, this is a reason to hate a bank)
Whew, I feel better.
Next, Tiffany’s. I’m sorry, but I think this is the most overrated product evah! For some reason, we get their catalog periodically and every time I flip through, I think “Tiffany! Your stuff is ugly! And cheap looking!” I am all for buying something that doesn’t reflect how much it costs, but only if that means I bought something CHEAP that looks EXPENSIVE. I do not want to buy a $200 pair of earrings that looks like it came from Claire’s. This is wrong.
And Louis Vuitton. I personally will probably never own a designer purse because (like Sheyenne) I cannot fathom spending $300 on a purse. I do buy nice purses – ones without little hanging seams or straps that will pull off in a few weeks – but I buy them at discount stores. The most expensive purse I own? Cost $32 (originally a $170 purse. . .I rock. Or Bart does, for buying it for me for my birthday). Anyway, if I was to buy a designer purse, it would never ever be Louis Vuitton. It’s just ugly. And looks fake, always.
I apologize for the crazed ranting. Sometimes, bad things need to be addressed.
(Oh and, yes, it is a much better day – thanks for asking. I had hot chocolate (with a wee shot of real cream) for breakfast and got dinner started before I went to work. And on my lunch break? I am going to go home and vacuum).
Noelle says
Amen on all accounts. Boo Wells Fargo, boo Tiffany & Co, boo Louis Vitton. I would never ever ever spend that much money to get a name brand item ESPECIALLY if it is ugly. (I think all the Louis Vitton stuff and much of coach is rather ugly).
Oh, and doesn’t hot chocolate do wonders on perking up a not-so-good morning?

I have no experience with Tiffany or LV, but I have too much experience with WF. I hate them. Hate, hate, hate, loathe. Also, despise.
Glad you’re having a better day.
She Likes Purple says
I also hate Wells Fargo. I’m a BofA girl, too.
I’m glad your day is better! Chocolate is a fix-all, isn’t it?

Janssen I love your rants! I too banking with WF for a short while and hated their fees on every single thing. How are they even still in business; every other comment has also expressed loathing for this bank.
My cousins bought Louis Vitton purses a couple years ago, which I thought was completely dumb. And they were ugly too . . .they looked like clown bags. For that amount of money they could’ve bought a couple of outfits, or a flight to Chicago, or made a nice donation to the Perpetual Education Fund. If I ever did decide to spend hundreds of dollars on a purse (believe me, I never will), I would never purchase something with someone else’s initials on MY purse. High fashion is completely ridiculous.
I’m so glad that you have strong opinions! It makes the world that much more fun.
Melanie says
ooops, sorry for the spelling and punctuation errors in the first paragraph of my last comment.

I think it’s funny because we bank with WF and have never had any problems. In fact, we affectionately refer to them as Fells Wargo. I guess it all depends… I don’t know what on, but to each his own. I just had to chime in that I’m a weirdo who likes WF for our checking and very short term savings accounts. I think the only time I’ve ever been charged a fee was when I accidentally overdrafted my checking, so they charged a fee to pull from my savings and keep my check from bouncing. OK by me!!!
But yes, boo hiss LV and Tiffany’s.
We got two crystal bowls from Tiffany’s for our wedding and I just kept wishing I could go cash them in! They looked the same as stuff you can go pick up at TJ Maxx for, in one case, 1/3 the price, and in the other case, 1/10 the price. More importantly, the more expensive one is SO not my style. All froofy and ornate. What a waste of money! Why couldn’t they just have written me a check? For that price, they could have bought half of Crate and Barrel where we registered.
And LV bags, always ugly and frumpy.

Haha that’s funny..your post today is on things you hate and mine is on things I love.
I actually really like Wells Fargo, haven’t really had any problems with them. I DON’T like Washington Mutual. Have you ever been in one? How are you supposed to know where the line is and where to stand?? So awkward.
The Dynamic Trio says
Haha. I LOVE your posts. You always make me smile. I agree with you about the WF…AND ESPECIALLY LV…but Tiffanys?! 🙁 I personally like some of their stuff. lol. So i can’t boo them, BUT i DO see your point! And i agree with it 🙂 I’m just a pathetic succor for Tiffanys. 🙂 And in answer to your question…NO. I do not do my hair myself. I have 3 very close friends who kind of trade off playing with my hair 🙂

Where the boys are at?
I don’t hate purses, having little occasion to use them, but I do love hating things. And since I know you love both hating and reading, I offer you the original haters: Sei Shonagon and William Hazlitt.
Oh, and if you’d like a more modern bent, here’s Robin Hemley, the director of nonfiction writing at U of Iowa, on hating.
Have you looked into ING Direct?
Bethany says
I don’t like Wells Fargo, but I don’t like Bank of America even more… for political reasons. But I won’t go into those because I try to avoid blogging about politics. I think I might lose friends if I did.
janet says
Can I hate Wells Fargo because they hold our mortgage?
I bank at PNC and I love them. It’s an East Coast thang tho…
Ditto on the Tiffany’s!
And you are SUCH a great wife! I need to take lessons from you.
Gina says
Doug has supported me in refusing to go to those pyramid scheme parties and sympathized with me as I have complained about “friends” who invite me to them. I have a no go policy too. I got a good laugh today when I checked the mail, because the EQ pres. wife (who sells MK) is hosting just such a party, but the invite came for Doug. It’s a men only party in which you can be guided to purchase what your wife “really wants for Christmas”.
chloe elizabeth says
Oh…how I love your posts! I do have to say that I grew up with Wells Fargo and so, while all of the things you said are true, it’s still my bank. What can I say? I’m loyal to a fault. This also poses problems in dating.
And I agree with you on both the Tiffany’s and Vuitton counts. Yuk and yuk. I do like my very nondescript Coach bag that I purchased at an outlet. Sometimes I do spend ridiculous amounts of money on thing…buy I’m usually embarrassed afterwards. Weird? Yes.
And I agree with hating “purchase parties”. Why does it have to be a party? Why can’t people just know what you sell and if you want it, you ask them?
Katie says
I couldn’t agree with you more about the LVs. There are so many fakes out there, why spend hundreds and thousands of dollars when everyone will just assume it’s a fake anyway?
Beck Family says
I laughed pretty hard when I went to your link and read about the selling parties b/c I just attended one of these on Tuesday night! It was a jewelry party. I actually don’t have the same loathing as you do about these parties. But I don’t like feeling guilty when I don’t want to buy something, but I did have a good time.
Bart is so smart, he took the IQ test I posted on my blog. I love Bart, I love you guys! Bart said we need set up something for Christmas. Will and I are leaving for Co Dec. 22 and returning the 27th. Will you be around before or after those dates. Let’s get something on the books so it will for sure happen. Maybe I should have put this in an email, oh well!
Ashley says
I agree with all. You are too funny.
Mary says
I agree with and have experienced almost everything you said about Wells Fargo. My friend uses them as a bad example of banking in her financial seminars. She doesn’t name them but she says, “You know the bank with the pretty little horses?”
