This weekend was glorious (do not hassle me about it being Tuesday; I KNOW that most people write about their weekends on Monday). It wasn’t so much that we did anything really out of the ordinary or exciting, but it was just so nice. It was a perfect combination of relaxation and productivity, of friends and glorious time home alone. We got up earlyish on Saturday morning and watched 24. We worked out. We cleaned. I read. I napped. I even cooked (pot roast, rolls, a strawberry-rhubarb coffee cake, and frozen pizza). Yes, it was a weekend of note.
There was a talent show for our church on Saturday night. I have deeply mixed feelings about talent shows. Sometimes you just laugh your head off, but all too often they are just one teenage solo or violin performance after another. When it’s one of the latter, well, I just want to die. We showed up right on time and stood around. And stood around some more. And then, twenty minutes later, they finally began. Bart and I looked at each other and said “We don’t want to be here.” And we left. We called up some friends, invited ourselves on over and spent a thoroughly delightful evening playing Ticket to Ride. I have not regretted for one minute that we didn’t stay (I have regretted for many many minutes that we didn’t get to partake in the lovely turtle or raspberry cheesecake, but such is the price one pays).
And on Sunday night, while we were sitting around trying to find a hotel in Boston (there were rooms available at the Four Seasons for on $975 a night, but we didn’t want to stay somewhere shady. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Sorry), the doorbell rang. Someone had left us “THE PHANTOM GHOST” with a plate of delicious caramel and chocolate chunk brownies. That is an excellent way to end a weekend. (The brownies are an excellent way to begin a week, also).
We’ve lived in our house for one year this weekend. A year ago we were unpacking boxes and trying to finish up the painting. This year we took 30 minutes to vacuum, dust, clean the bathroom, and put away anything lying about and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon in our gloriously sunny living room. It’s good to be home.

We played Ticket to Ride for the first time last night. What a fun game.

Yeah, that weekend even made me feel good.

I can’t wait for that feeling of finally “being home.” Hopefully this time next year I can say the same thing. 🙂

Sounds fabulous. I’m looking forward to this weekend as the first in a while in which I have absolutely nothing planned.

Darn, I forgot about the Phantom ghost. Do you think it’s too late to start it in our ward? Halloween is only a few weeks away!
