Whatever and Ever, Amen

Whew. . .Monday again already. My parents and my brother were here all weekend (and Thursday too, actually), so it's been a very busy few days, including a trip down to San Antonio (with the worst traffic ever - it took us thirty minutes to go two miles). It was so fun to have them here, and I've been looking forward to it for weeks and weeks. Although there is something nice about going back to your own quiet house and having no responsibilities, it is lonely to come home and see the five chairs around the kitchen table where you only normally need two, or to see the pillows and sheets folded up and no longer needed. We had a great time with them, and I'll post some pictures later when I have a minute.

I was doing really well for a while doing the Couch to 5K running program, and then I got lazy. I'm worried that I've lost most of the stamina I've built up and that I'm back to being someone who can't run for more than 60 seconds without approaching death. We go to the gym consistently and we're there the sam amount of time regardless of what I do, so I might as well do something that uses my time best. I don't know why it's so hard for me just to run, but alas it is. And yet, I am going to get over it. I'm going to download better things to listen to on my iPod that will be more interesting to me, whether that be books on tape, podcasts, or just fun playlists. So, I'm back on the wagon, starting tonight.

And we're reading Harry Potter. I have taken all the newsfeeds off my Google homepage, I haven't gotten on Facebook, and I'm studiously avoiding any blogs that might leak the secret. I do NOT want the ending ruined for me. I'm reading it outloud to Bart and we spend about six straight hours yesterday reading, which was fun. He's really busy this week, so it's a bit tempting to finish it on my own and let him read it when his life is a bit more calm, but frankly, I don't want to read it alone. I like reading it outloud better because it lasts longer and I don't just make a mad dash to the finish (I'm a speedy reader, so I would have been long done with it by now). And it's nice to have someone to talk it over with, someone to comment to along the way. Anyway, if anyone tells me what happens or even lets a single word slip, I will DIE. Do not say a word about the book, even in jest. We will never be friends again.

  1. Because of my crazy schedule (GMAT and a presentation I have to give in D.C. in three weeks) I don't even get to pick the book up until September. I know the dying feeling.

  2. I definitely blogged about HP7 on Saturday night after finishing, so be careful! It's a couple posts down and there is a warning at the front so you can avoid it. I totally loved it though!!

I couldn't read it out loud. Too busy laughing and crying to myself, we'd never get through! I'm kind of a baby though. Power to you!

  3. Nerd that I am, I picked up a copy in London on Friday night and started reading right away--didn't sleep until I finished.

I'm excited to hear what you think of it--hope you'll post a review when you're done.

  4. no worries, I'm not an HP reader myself.

As for help running, may I recommend listening to the This American Life podcasts? I love them!

  5. Andrew has been reading Harry pretty steadily since Sunday evening. I did make him practice Monday (he stayed in pajamas all day) and he did have to participate in family activities yesterday (it was Pioneed Day after all), but he has been basically reading other than that. Last night he finished the book. Hooray. Now it is my turn (though I probably shouldn't get started with it--I know it will consume me). Andrew and George go to scout camp this afternoon and don't return till tomorrow. Maybe I can squeeze in a bit of reading. As to the ending, I have no idea. Andrew has been saying ridiculous things about it since he was mid-way through, but I don't believe a word of it. He did say that it was a good ending after he finished last night. Hope I agree with him!
