My Weekend Involved Studying. What More Could You Need to Know?

I'm studying for the GRE. Generally, I prefer to not saying anything about these kinds of things; if I don't do well, I don't want anyone to know I even tried. I'd rather just keep it to myself and fail or succeed alone. I'm planning on taking it in about four weeks, either the last week in June or the first week in July. I'm actually quite excited about it, and it's been nice to be studying for it, because it stresses me out much less when I'm DOING something about it, rather than just worrying about bombing it.

Yesterday, we went to the Half Price Bookstore (I'd never been before) and I picked up an almost brand new Kaplan Prep book for 10 dollars. Hooray! I can tell I will be going back often. There is a Barnes and Noble just a mile or two from our house, but it has exactly one chair in it, so it's not that great for sitting around and browsing through books. This store, however, had two couches and a chair in nearly every section. Fantastic! Bart bought a book from the clearance section for 2 dollars, and I spent nearly an hour looking through cookbooks. Oh, do I love cookbooks. I was hoping for a great ice cream one, but alas, it was not to be. Now that it's summer, I'm really wanting to whip out the ice cream maker and end up with something delicious.

We went to lunch/dinner at Chipotle's last night, and sat at the table for a long while quizzing each other on the GRE word bank, which was actually surprisingly fun. It's fun to find out what words you've heard forever actually mean. On Tuesday, they're having a "bring a canned good and get a free burrito/taco/salad" day, so we'll be back then for another delicious dinner. Mmmm.

Last night we watched "Scoop" with Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johannsen, and Woody Allen. It wasn't a terribly long movie, and we really liked it in the beginning, thought it was pretty lame in the middle, and then quite enjoyed the ending. I really wasn't sure what the ending was going to be, which I liked, but there were a number of loose ends that weren't tied up, which I didn't like. WHO KILLED THE SECRETARY!?! I don't know that it's a movie I'd highly recommend, but it was an enjoyable movie, nonetheless.

We're taking off in a few minutes to go to the Jacobs to play some games. They've been great friends to us and are always inviting us over and making us feel included. It's so pleasant to have friends who you feel like really enjoy having you around and make a concerted effort to make you part of their lives. Plus, they like Ticket to Ride, so you can't really ask for much more.

  1. Good luck on the GRE. Also, I have an ice cream book you're welcome to borrow. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, so no promises of quality. I also have a raspberry ice cream recipe that I love, if you're interested. (Qualifier: Most people love the raspberry ice cream. Except Bawb, who is crazy and dislikes both raspberries and my ice cream.)

  2. Oh, right. Except that you live several states away. That might make it difficult. If we find any good recipes/books, we'll pass the word along. And if you find any good ones, we'd love to hear them.

When I read the first sentence of your post, all I could think was, "But I KNOW she's been to college! It says so right in her profile. Why would she be studying for the GRE?"

And then I realized that the GRE is really not at all the same thing as a GED.

    Oops.

  4. Good luck on the GRE. I've been "studying" for it too. And by "studying" I mean watching for new words when I read and occasionally glancing at the prep book lying on my shelf. But I agree that actually doing something is better than just thinking about it--I just need to convert that into action.

Also, the Half Price Bookstore sounds fantastic.
